Clutch need some care also. I dont like the Std V4 clutch with heavier spring was common solution between privat rallydriver´s in the 70´s. Saab sold heavier springs which you could youself install to standard clutch assembly. Sure, all those Works Saabs doesnt have those ones, put the realones with totally different pillet steel flywheels and Porsche style plates are very rare nowdays and nearly all of them more or less worn. So I decide to save them to next generations to see how those really stuff´s looks. How to solve clutch problem then ? Here some answer. You need clutch assembly from Lada NIVA, which is tiny 4×4 Off Road vehicle from Russia. Then you need a good machining workshop which make the modification. In this case, clutch pressure plates fastening area is 0,2 mm under the clutcplates friction surface on the flywheel. This all depends on clutchmanufacturer by other + how thick plate you have.

Same time with flywheel machining to the Niva clutch you get some kilograms lighter flywheel. Dont forged use thread glue for flywheel bolts. Notice stronger bolts.

To secure flywheel tightening, its hardly recommended that you clean up threads. I bought new M10x1 tappet for that purpose.

Very interesting conversion. Are you using the original Saab plate and release bearing? Do you have a part number for the Niva assembly?

    Keep up the good work!

    Hello Melle.
yes, I have used Saab V4 standard plate and release pearing. The problem to find Niva assembly is that different manufactures make the assembly little bit different way. Sometimes you need to do distance washer to the assembly. Sorry, I dont know this partnumber(Not OE), I made this set back 90`s. Later on, I try to catch right number

Great, thanks. The ”standard” V4 diaphragm clutch conversion uses VW stuff and needs the spline on the plate changed over. If you could find a reference number for the Niva pressure plate that would be great, happy to try this out myself! I think the Lada Riva/ 2100 has the same clutch? Does the Niva pressure plate use the same bolt pattern as the original item?
