This summer was great and full of nice Saab happenings. After many years I took my two stroker out of garage and made short test drive before drive in- inspection. I was a lit bit nervous, because last time traffic inspection has made 2003, and as we enthusiast know, old cars newer comes better if they just stay in garage. Surprise was huge, when all those drumbrakes works perfectly, and I get “clean papers”. This car I have owned past 20 years and restored it in car mechanic school at age of 22. Put it`s an another story.
Next step in Saabsummer was my last summer great idea´s improvement. Just for joke, I drive directly to Drive-In inspection and wait how authorities react for such a nice “Pimp my ride system”. No problem att all, its like an original, all those Saab roofracks and matching colour. Before inspection I have make some brake service by front brake hose change, both side and rear spring change. I put old too hard rally springs, and now it looks and works better than in Trollhättan trip 2010. This car I think is one of the best summer car ever made – at least for Saabfanatics. With her Bilstein rallyshocks, Saab 95E wheels and old Finish Lapponia 165-15 rallytires itis nice to drive. And for last, but not least- its nearly impossible to get tickets from speeding ! Topspeed is round 80-90km/h.
Third happening was Great IntSaab2011- happening. Nice weather, good place, beautifull Saab`s and Saab enthusiast round the world. Absolutely one of the highlights in this year. As one of the founding members of Saab club of Finland I promise last autumm to our chairman, Mr. Lehtonen, to put one of my Original BlueWhite rallySaab on stand. And not just one rallycar, put Ex Works Simo Lampinen AEU-502. In this car Simo finished His rallychampionship in 1975 in Finland and become third in 1976. I collect and borrow some nice collect items round AEU-502 and make tiny showroom in Hotell reception. It works well, and I hope quest were happy. The car was 1000 Lakes 1975 look with those replica stickers.
When the happening came closer, I had the idea to bring other BlueWhite also; AEC-501 Ex Works Tapio Rainio / Stig Blomqvist. With this car Tapio won Finnish rallychampionship in Group 4 in 1976. One interesting thing is that this car is the individual car which Stig Blomqvist used when he drove Saab 96 to it’s last international rally victory. It was year 1977 and Hankirally in Finland. (Not rally Sweden 1976/Per Eklund as is told common in Sweden)
